'Organisation Economics is an in-depth programme where you use mathematics to look at businesses'
Suzanne Stevens - Graduate Business Economics: Organisation Economics
‘Amsterdam is a nice city with many museums, shops and things to do. It has an international atmosphere where many cultures live together. The Amsterdam Business School itself feels like a little village where you know most of your fellow students. It is easy to reach by public transport and close to the city centre.
I chose Organisation Economics at the UvA because it is an in-depth programme where you use mathematics to look at businesses and organisations, applying theory to real life practice. Being a small track, you can really have in-depth discussions in class. The lecturers are easy to get to know, and very approachable. Moreover, many courses challenge you to do new things, like handing in statements each week, or designing and executing your own experiments.
I have worked as a student assistant in the second year Bachelor’s course microeconomics. It’s interesting to see how the University works from the inside. I am currently looking for a traineeship within a suitable company. This very broad programme has prepared me for working in different kinds of organisations and positions. You not only gain a solid background in mathematics and finance, but also insights in how power and authority are divided in businesses, entrepreneurship and how to motivate employees. So you can go in multiple directions in all kinds of organisations.’
