'My name is Irina Manea and I am from Romania. I graduated from the International Business and Economics University from Bucharest.

First of all, I chose to study in Amsterdam because the UvA is a well-known university in Europe and is very well regarded in Romania. Secondly, I knew that in this international city I would have the chance to meet many people from different countries, thus making a lot of friends and mix studying with having fun.

It has all proven to be true. Amsterdam is a city for all moods; there are many theatres, bars and cinemas as well as a lot of very quiet places like the various parks. The Dutch people are extremely nice and friendly and it is very easy to get around as everybody speaks English. Furthermore, me and my fellow students truly have become an international group of friends.

Talking about fun: a must for this city in my opinion is learning how to ride a bike; it is the easiest way to get around the city.

As for the courses; they have met my expectations. The professors are very well qualified. Even though the classes were more demanding than what I was used to, they are taught in an inspiring way. Teachers give lots of concrete examples, helping you understand the theory.

Amsterdam wasn't at all what I expected - it's even better!'
