'The quality of the school was beyond my expectations'

'I joined the Master's programme Economics at the UvA as an international student from Istanbul, Turkey. I had completed my bachelor in three different universities, in Boston, Vienna and Istanbul.
Even though I had experience in studying abroad, coming to the Netherlands was still an adventure. The Netherlands in general were a mystery to me. For instance, would the Dutch be friendly, and would they speak fluent English in daily life?
When I came to Amsterdam, my questions were quickly answered: first of all, the quality of the school was beyond my expectations. Also, I couldn't have predicted the great attitude of lecturers towards us students, the friendliness of the administrative staff and the highly motivated and international student profile. I had the chance to participate in courses taught by professors who are among the world wide experts of their area. Furthermore, I got the possibility to make friends all over the world.
From previous experiences I learned that the city you live in is as important as the university you study at. Amsterdam will satisfy your needs. I have never felt a stranger in this city; people are friendly and speak English well. It is a small city, but at the same time it is also a crowded and lively metropolis.
I am currently employed by a multinational Dutch firm and will be staying in Amsterdam at least one more year. I highly recommend UvA as a school to pursue your advanced education and Amsterdam as a city to live in.'
