Research projects:

-          Bargaining for Social Rights (BARSORI), 2010-2011  financed by the European Commission, project manager: Professor Maarten Keune. This research project deals with precarious forms of employment in 7 European Union Member States, namely, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, Spain, The Netherlands and the UK. This project aims to conduct a comparative study of trade unions experiences with improving the social rights of precarious workers through collective bargaining   and social dialogue. The results of the country studies and overview report will be discusses at an international closing conference of the project where trade unionists from all EU Member States will be invited.

Nuria Ramos Martin is involved in this project as researcher and coordinator.

-             "Decisions for life", 2008-2010, Funded by:  MGD3 - number - BE/285-2008. Partners:   University of Amsterdam/AIAS , Global Union UNI, WageIndicator Foundation, ITUC Brussels . Project management : Professor Dr. Kea Tijdens. The main objective of this project is to raise awareness amongst young female workers concerning future employment opportunities and career possibilities, family building, and the work-family balance. The International Trade Union Confederation is the main partner of the UvA in this project and the awareness activities on the 'decent work' agenda and gender are developed in collaboration with local unions ( these campaigns include the development of an on-line tool for each country with information on international and domestic standards on labour and employment protection - the so-called decent work check, face-to-face meetings, training sessions and dissemination of offline materials. ). DECISIONS FOR LIFE focuses on 14 developing countries, notably Brazil , India , Indonesia , the CIS countries Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Ukraine , and the southern African countries Angola , Botswana , Malawi , Mozambique , South Africa , Zambia and Zimbabwe . In the country reports we examine how the ILO relevant conventions are implemented in several developing countries (decent work), paying special attention to gender issues and also offering an overview of industrial relations and the situation of collective rights in each country. Websit e: http://dfl.wageindicator.org

(This project involves close collaboration with the International Trade Union Confederation and unions at national level. A main part of the reports for the Decisions for life project deal with the industrial relations systems and the protection of collective rights (right to belong to a trade union, pursue union activities, right to collective bargaining, etc.) in several developing countries. For the on-line tool and the reports we have taken as a reference point the ILO conventions. (For the reports, see list of publications)

-          EUROFOUND-Dublin funded research project: The functioning of sector level wage bargaining systems and wage setting mechanisms in adverse labour market conditions. 2009/2010, Project manager: Prof. Dr. Maarten Keune. This project deals with the use of systems of opt-out or deviations from agreed   wages from the sectoral to the company level of collective bargaining in several EU Member States, namely, Spain, France, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy.
