Jeanrique Fahner (The Netherlands)
Public Internarional Law research master
'The research master combines thorough training in legal research skills with schooling in the theoretical foundations of public international law. The program's courses on research methodology provided me with valuable experience in drafting research questions and research proposals, which to me (and everybody?) was always one of the most difficult aspects of academic research. The program's conceptual focus on the rule of law invites students to explore theoretical issues beyond the boundaries of specific fields of law.'
'Because the courses of this program are taught in small groups, the contact with supervisors is close and fellow students easily become good friends. The ACIL has partnerships with many prestigious universities all over the world and research master students can profit from this by following part of the program abroad. My exchange semester to Columbia Law School in New York enabled me to explore the American way of law and provided me with many fantastic experiences. In general, research master students are expected to employ an independent approach towards their studies. This may sometimes require more self-discipline than is common in other programs, but it also allows one to adapt the program to specific interests and ambitions.'
