Comprehensive research
The two year academic oriented research programme Archaeology provides you
with enough opportunities to specialise in the archaeological component which
fascinates you the most. However, a strong interest in academic research is
essential. Would you like to further broaden your knowledge of archaeology and,
for instance, learn more about the meaning of temples in the Ancient World? Or
would you like to examine the development of cities in North Western Europe
since the late Roman period? The two year Research Master’s in Archaeology will
give you every opportunity to do so. As a student of this Research MA programme,
you can choose between the specialisations European Archaeology and
Mediterranean Archaeology.
In collaboration with archaeological institutes from other universities,
symposiums and workshops will be organised for the capita-selecta components.
These will be accessible to both PhD researchers and students.
ACASA: Archaeology in Amsterdam
As of September 2012, the Master’s programmes Archaeology, and Classics and Ancient Civilisations will be jointly provided by the University of Amsterdam and the VU University Amsterdam via the Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA). The Research Master’s programme Archaeology forms part of this joint effort. By pooling their resources in ACASA, the two Amsterdam-based universities can offer the broadest package of Master’s programmes in the field of archaeology and classical antiquity in the Netherlands.
Degree certificate
The Research Master Archaeology is an accredited degree programme. After successful completion of this programme, you will receive a legally accredited Master’s degree in Archaeology and the title Master of Arts (MA).
