Podgaevskaja, Alla
'Dyslexia and Bilingualism: A Dutch-Russian Case Study' investigates how different features of the Russian language complicate reading, writing and oral skills of bilingual Dutch-Russian children with and without dyslexia. Alla Podgaevskaja is associate professor of Slavonic Language and Culture.
In all written languages there are children who have difficulty with reading and writing skills. From the literature we know that manifestations of dyslexia vary in different languages, and that language acquisition of dyslexic children can be influenced by language-specific features. Contrary to Western-European languages where dyslexia in monolingual children is well investigated, we know little about reading disabilities in Slavic languages and bilingual contexts as well.
