Kees Hengeveld (1957) has been a professor of General Linguitics, especially of theoretical linguistics, at the UvA since 1996. He has acquired national and international acclaim with his research on functional discourse grammar and language typology. His work is theoretically innovative and has a strong empirical underpinning.
As supervisor of a large number of young researchers, Hengeveld has created his own school of modern linguistics, that has been the inspiration of many.
