The caliphate of al-Muqtadir (908-932) is one of the most crucial and controversial epochs in the history of the Abbasids, a dynasty ruling the Middle East in the early Middle Ages.
This regime has traditionally been depicted as one of decline, when the political power of the caliphate and the economic lustre of Iraq began to crumble. Crisis and Continuity at the Abbasid Court not only offers a substantial investigation of the idea and reality of decline, but also provides new interpretations of the inner workings of the court and the empire.
