On 26-27 August 2011, the Amsterdam Law School of the University of Amsterdam organized a reunion for the MTEC (Matra Training for European Cooperation) alumni. The Amsterdam Law School ran the MTEC programme from 2005 until 2010. During those 5 years around 120 students joint the MTEC programme. Over 50 MTEC students attended the reunion, and had the opportunity to reunite with their university fellows and professors (Dean Prof. Edgar du Perron, Prof. Marjoleine Zieck, Dr. Ronald van Ooik, Dr. Yvonne Donders and Head of Student Administration and International Office Jikke Verheij).

The reunion programme consisted of two lectures, on EU law and on public international law, key note speeches from an MTEC student from each year, and ended with an MTEC quiz hosted by the the head of the MATRA programme of the Department of Foreign Affairs. mr. Bert Meijerman. The day ended, in good MTEC spirits, with drinks and a dinner (and more drinks).

The reunion was, like the programme itself, a huge success, to quote one of the participants: ‘Life in Amsterdam changed me, my attitude to things and my outlook. Thanks to Dutch society I became more European-oriented, more tolerant to people from other nationalities, kinder and more positive. It was a great international experience. Thanks to the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs and UvA, every time I am in Amsterdam, I can say: home, sweet home!’
