Curriculum vitae

Hanna Sevenster studied law at Leiden University, specialising in European and international law. After her studies she became lecturer and researcher at the Europa Instituut of the same University in 1987. She received her doctorate degree in 1992, with a dissertation on the interaction between European Community law and environmental policy. She joined the private law firm of De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek in 1994, being active primarily in the field of European and competition law. She was appointed professor of European Environmental Law at University of Amsterdam in 1996. She now holds the chair on an honorary basis. In 2001, Hanna left the law firm to become Head of the Department of European Law of the Legal Affairs Directorate of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, inter alia entrusted with the litigation at the ECJ on behalf of the Dutch government. At present Hanna Sevenster is member of the Dutch Council of State (since 2007) and honorary professor at ACELS.
