Denis Abels is Universitair Hoofddocent Straf(proces)recht.

Zijn expertise betreft het (internationaal) detentierecht en sanctierecht.

In 2012 verdedigde hij zijn proefschrift (cum laude) 'Prisoners of the International Community: the Legal Position of Persons Detained at International Criminal Tribunals' (NWO-Toptalent 2007).

Hij studeerde rechtsgeleerdheid aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam (LLM cum laude, LLB cum laude).

Abels doceert het bachelorvak Materieel Strafrecht II en de mastervakken Verdieping Strafrecht en Sanctierecht en coördineert de begeleiding van essay- en scriptiestudenten .

Hij is vaste medewerker PI bij het tijdschrift 'Sancties. Tijdschrift over Straffen en Maatregelen' en in die hoedanigheid verantwoordelijk voor annotaties bij beslissingen van internationale hoven.

 

Denis Abels is Associate Professor of Criminal Law. 

Within the criminal law department, he coordinates the supervision provided to students in such writing projects as the LLB essay and LLM thesis. He teaches such courses as criminal law, the law of criminal procedure and (international) sanctioning law. 

He studied law at the University of Amsterdam (PhD cum laude, LLM cum laude ; LLB cum laude ).
