Anniek de Ruijter has a Bachelors degree in law (LLB) with honors from the University of Amsterdam (2006) and a Masters degree in law (LLM) from both The University of Amsterdam (2007) and Columbia Law School, New York City (2008).

In 2007-2008 she was a Fulbright fellow to the USA. As of 2008 Anniek was a PhD candidate at the University of Amsterdam, Faculty of Law. In 2008-2009 she was a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School with Professor Sabel as her supervisor. Her PhD thesis, defended in 2015 and written under supervision of Professor Curtin, concerns a rights-based analysis of EU health law and policy and is entitled A Silent Revolution: The Expansion of EU Power in the Field of Human Health.

Anniek is a member of the European Association of Health Law
Anniek is boardmember and chair of the Clara Wichmann Proefprocessenfonds.
