Leonie Janssen-Jansen

Leonie Janssen-Jansen is an associate professor at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, Department of Geography, Planning and International Development Studies, University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. She also is Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Art Design and the Built Environment, School of the Built Environment, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK.  
In February 2010, she was elected as President of the International Academic Association on Planning, Law and Property Rights (PLPR), a n academic association to promote interdisciplinary and cross-national exchange between academics in planning, law and real estate studies (elected as founding vice-president in Warsaw, 2008). Further, she is actively involved in the Dutch Association of Planners and Urban Designers (BNSP). She is editor in chief of the Urban and Regional Planning Series of the SDU Publishers and has been guest editor of a special issue of International Planning Studies on Reconfiguring the governance structures of the   21st Century City-Region . She has received research grants from the Dutch Scientific Council (NWO), the Ministry of Housing, Environment and Spatial Planning, and the Netherlands Environmental Assessment agency.   
Leonie Janssen-Jansen holds a Ph.D. in Urban and Regional planning from the University of Utrecht (2004) and a Master degree (cum laude) in Urban and Regional planning (1998), also from the University of Utrecht. Her PhD builds on the development of regional planning strategies, inspired on the methodological insights of Growth Management and Smart Growth. Before she started her PhD research, she worked at the Dutch Ministry of the Interior, at the financial relations department.
Her current teaching, research and publications focus on the relation between planning and urban development, real estate (office vacancy), land economics, urban transformation, smart growth, regional governance and planning, and planning and law.
