As well as being an Assistant Professor (UH1) in the Department of Sociology at the University of Amsterdam (UvA), Olga Sezneva serves as a Professor of Urban Studies at European University at St. Petersburg (Russia). She co-directs Master Program in Advanced Architecture and Urban Design ‘Building the City Now’ accredited by Barcelona PolyTECH and located in St. Petersburg.  A graduate of the Ph.D. Program in Sociology at New York University, she also was a Harper Fellow at the University of Chicago in 2005 to 2009.

Olga’s research developed along two main interests: the intersection between built environment and culture, and the digital media markets, with a specific focus on cultures of circulation. Her work appeared in a number of edited volumes and international peer-review journals.

In 2013, a group of international scholars, including Olga herself and led by Professor Mario Biagiogli (PI, UC-Davis), was awarded the prestigious Mega-grant from Russian Federation Government (grant No.14.U04.31.0001) to study Russian computer scientists at home and abroad.

She is currently on the research leave conducting her work in Russia.
