Research

Marc de Wilde is Professor of Jurisprudence with a focus on the history of legal thought. He wrote a dissertation on political theology in the work of Walter Benjamin and Carl Schmitt for which he received two awards, the Amsterdam Institute of Culture and History Prize for best PhD-thesis of 2008 and the Bulthuis van Oosternieland Prijs 2009 of the Free University Amsterdam. For his article " Fides Publica in Ancient Rome and its Reception by Grotius and Locke" he was granted the prize for best publication of 2011 of the Amsterdam Research Institute for Legal Studies (ARILS). Among his research interests are the history and theory of the state of exception, the relation between law and religion, and the history of human rights.
