Berit studied Systematic Musicology at the University of Hamburg, and Electroacoustic Composition and Music Technology at the Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge, and has worked with STEIM in Amsterdam and the CKC in Zoetermeer developing and teaching in the areas of music research and music technology.

Since 2012, she is a PhD candidate in the Tunes & Tales project, a collaboration of the Music Cognition Group with Henkjan Honing, and the Meertens Institute in Amsterdam with Peter van Kranenburg and Louis Grijp. She is interested in music perception and musical memory, and specifically investigates stability of folk song melodies in oral transmission.
