Prof. dr. Eugène Loos is sinds juni 2009 als bijzonder hoogleraar Oude en nieuwe media in een vergrijzende maatschappij voor ANBO (dé belangenorganisatie voor ouderen) verbonden aan de afdeling Communicatiewetenschap (programmagroep Persuasieve Communicatie) van de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Hij is tevens als universitair hoofddoccent verbonden aan de Utrechtse School voor Bestuurs- en Organisatiewetenschap (USBO) van de Universiteit Utrecht, en lid van de research schools ASCoR (Amsterdam School of Communication Reseach) en NIG (Netherlands Institute of Government).

In zijn bijzondere leerstoel staat de volgende vraag centraal:

"Hoe kunnen we er voor zorgen dat (digitale) informatie over diensten en producten zo wordt weergegeven dat die ook voor diverse groepen ouderen toegankelijk blijft?"

Meer informatie is te vinden in zijn oratie De oudere: een digitale immigrant in eigen land? Een verkenning naar toegankelijke informatievoorziening, die hij op 25 juni 2010 heeft uitgesproken.

Zijn onderzoeksagenda focust op de manier waarop organisaties oude en nieuwe media kunnen inzetten, zodat ouderen als actieve burgers kunnen blijven participeren in onze maatschappij.

Daarbij wordt de (ir)relevantie van leeftijd onderzocht voor: (1) het digitale informatiezoekgedrag van ouderen, (2) hun identificatie met beelden, (3) de impact van visuele en tekstuele tekens op hun cognitie en emotie, (4) het gebruik van digitale (sport) games voor hun fysieke, mentale en sociale welzijn, en (5) intergenerationeel digitaal gamen voor hun deelname aan onze maatschappij.

Hij is co-chair van de Media Work Group of the COST Action “Ageism” isch/IS1402 (www.notoageism.com), en was lid van COST Actions 269 “User aspects of ICT”, COST 298 “Participation in the Broadband Society” (http://www.cost298.org/) and COST Action IS0906 “Transforming Audiences, Transforming Societies” (http://www.cost-transforming-audiences.eu).
