I completed my Master degree in History in 2009 at the University of Antwerp, and graduated with a masters’ thesis on the representations of Cairo in late medieval travel accounts from the Netherlands and the German Empire. As a member of the Centre for Urban History (UA), I until recently worked on a PhD project on the evolving importance of the extended family in sixteenth-century Mechelen, which was supervised by Prof. dr. Peter Stabel and dr. Maarten F. Van Dijck, and funded by the Fund of Scientific Research Flanders. In september 2015, I successfully defended my PhD dissertation at Antwerp University.

NWO project on territory

From 2016 to 2019 I will work on a research project funded by NWO Humanities entitled Imagining a territory. Constructions and representations of late medieval Brabant. In close collaboration with the project's supervisor, Mario Damen, and a PhD-student, Arend Elias Oostindiër, I will analyse how the interaction between princes, nobles and urban elites influenced the construction, perception and representation of the territory of the late medieval Duchy of Brabant.
