Ruud Wouters is an Assistant Professor in Political Communication at the Amsterdam School of Communication Research (ASCoR; University of Amsterdam). He applies methods and theories quite central in communication (content analysis, experiments) to a topic more typical for sociology (social movements, protest). Specifically, his research interests are (1) media coverage of social movements, (2) the impact of protest and (3) protest participation and mobilization.

Ruud defended his phd at the University of Antwerp (research group Media, Movements and Politics) in 2013. His post-doc project was funded by the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO). During the academic year 2015-16, he visited the Political Communication Lab at Stanford University.
