From their office windows staff members are able to see publishing houses on the Singel, the Royal Palace on Dam Square, the State Museum, and the Mint Tower. The Faculty’s students can be found all over Amsterdam; cycling between buildings, and initiating and participating in cultural and political activities.
Aside from the charm of smaller, interspersed buildings, the need exists for more possibilities with regard to new collaborative relationships across traditional disciplinary boundaries, both in education and research. The University’s aim is to establish a University Quarter in the Binnengasthuis and Oudemanhuispoort areas. This will enable the humanities, education and research to be bought together in one prime location. The campus is augmented with a university library-cum-study centre. In 2012 a project got underway to redevelop the Binnengasthuis area and establish contemporary facilities for students and researchers.
