The housing of the UvA is pinching: the rapid annual growth in numbers can hardly be facilitated with sufficient teaching spaces. The president of the Executive Board (CvB), Geert ten Dam, signalled this in November 2021.

The Joint Assembly (GV), in which the Central Works Council (COR) and the Central Student Council (CSR) act jointly, is seriously concerned about whether there will be sufficient teaching rooms available in September 2022. GV regularly consults with the responsible directors and Executive Board member Jan Lintsen, but the consultations have not yet been able to dispel our concerns.

Planning too tight
In particular, the construction of the temporary education building at the REC, Plot V, has an almost improbably tight schedule. In Plot V, 24 teaching rooms are planned. If so, many teaching rooms do not become available on time, there are hardly any alternatives possible to replace those teaching rooms.

Removing uncertainty
The uncertainty that this situation creates among teachers and students is highly undesirable. The COR and the CSR want clarity as soon as possible regarding the planning and feasibility of the housing plans for the coming academic year. The GV also advocates developing proactive plans now for viable alternatives should the planning not be met.
