Healthcare professionals have a lot to endure. Aside from dealing with the daily dilemmas posed by having to take medical decisions, they also need to deliver more transparent healthcare. In addition, they also work in a rapidly developing information matrix, which they generally do not fully understand or make adequate use of. These are golden times for medical informatics, which can play a beneficial role in the healthcare sector. This will be the central premise of Ameen Abu-Hanna’s inaugural lecture as professor of Medical Informatics.
