Working at the juncture of rapidly growing computer power and data volume, machine learning researchers focus on enormous predictive models. So-called 'deep learning algorithms', which were developed by these researchers, have been extremely successful in both the academic and business worlds. In his inaugural lecture as professor of Machine Learning, Max Welling will discuss some of these successes.
