The enormous complexity of environmental actors and types in wetland ecosystems can be simplified to a limited amount of connected causal factors and functional properties. This will be the central premise of Piet Verdonschot’s inaugural lecture as professor by special appointment of Wetland Restoration Ecology. Verdonschot will present a concept with which water management can cost-effectively repair wetland ecosystems.
