Operational and solvency requirements for insurers on the internal European market are developing strongly. Legal aspects such as a harmonised insurance law, determining uniform premiums, uniform material rules concerning the protection of insurance customers, and clear payment systems for premiums and claims are mostly lacking. In his inaugural lecture as professor of European and Comparative Insurance Law, Jac Rinkes will argue that in the coming years the development of a European (and comparative) insurance law should be stimulated for a genuinely broad internal insurance market.
