Every day, a huge amount of energy is wasted in the form of sunlight that reaches the Earth's surface. In his inaugural lecture as professor of Photonic Materials for Photovoltaics, Albert Polman proposes a solution to this wastage, presenting a new solar-cell technology he has developed together with his American colleague Harry Atwater (California Institute of Technology). To reach a wider audience, this inaugural lecture will be presented as a 'theatre lecture' at the Frascati theatre.
