Teacher training and professionalisation and didactic innovation in the different school subjects requires a more extensive set of subject-specific ‘tools’. Taking her research into learning and teaching history as an example, Van Boxtel shows what these tools might look like, and how research into history teaching should be based on the fields of both history and education science.
