The importance of information provision is increasing in the light of the growing role reserved for patients in the decision-making process surrounding treatment. In addition, good information is a minimum legal requirement and has a positive influence on adherence and emotional well-being among patients. In her inaugural lecture, Ellen Smits argues that patients and care providers must both master the art of being willing and able to ask each other questions.
