The role of legal advocates and the adversarial legal model come in for regular criticism. It is often thought that advocates stand in the way of solutions. In her inaugural lecture Diana de Wolff argues that this criticism is one-sided. Reflection on the various roles of legal advocates and the ethical foundations of the profession can help us more precisely define a sound administration of justice.
