How has the growth of the natural sciences influenced the way we understand and interact with the world? How has science altered our perception of ourselves, and our place in the cosmos? What is the impact of scientific knowledge on religious belief structures?
Asprem's research documents how a new conception of the relation between science and religion was crafted during the first four decades of the twentieth century – and particularly in the period between the two world wars – by scientists, philosophers and other intellectuals.
The research contributes to our historical and philosophical knowledge of questions that remain very much in the centre of attention today. It nuances our understanding of the 'religion vs. science' debate that has gained new acuity in light of the so-called 'New Atheism'.
