David van Dijk explores the interactive network that emerges from the many cellular interactions that take place between virus, human genes and proteins during HIV-1 infection. His research adds to a better understanding of the way in which gene activity and background noise are coded in DNA sequence, and how interactions between genes lead to complex network structures.
