Dion Houtman studies the influence of the cystosol on organelle transport in the eukaryotic cell. Eukaryotic cells are membrane bound structures that are filled with cytoplasm and a cytoskeleton. Houtman is especially interested in the phenomena of cytoplasmic and axoplasmic streaming. In both these phenomena, many organelles are transported in the same direction over relatively long distances.
