Hearing loss is measured by determining the subject's sensitivity to soft noises, or audiometric thresholds. The extent of the hearing loss is then represented in a diagram juxtaposing the audiometric thresholds against the various frequencies: the tone audiogram. Thamar van Esch focuses on the development of clinically applicable tests that can serve as a supplement to the tone audiogram.
