Paula Ramos-Silva provides insight into the molecular processes which play a role in the biocalcification of mollusk shells and coral skeletons. She identifies new proteins which are directly involved in the biocalcification and explores the complete collection of skeletal proteins. In doing so, Ramos-Silva uses so-called high-throughput techniques, such as proteomics, in combination with other molecular methods and bioinformatics.
