Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a lifelong disease, characterised by chronic relapsing inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are two main phenotypes of IBD. For her PhD dissertation, Thalia Hummel evaluates several aspects of paediatric IBD, including pathogenesis, diagnostics, treatment and psychosocial consequences.
