Jeroen Staring sheds new light on American initiatives with regard to educational renewal during the early twentieth century, and its relevance for Dutch Nieuwe Leren (New Learning) educational reforms. Special attention is given to the role played by the Bureau of Educational Experiments and its members in the history of (American) educational renewal between 1916 and 1919.
