Dutch poet Willem Kloos (1859-1938) is generally viewed as someone who created his own myth, and was quite flexible with the truth. He was also assumed to have been driven by homo-erotic stimuli and to have had no interest in politics. For his PhD dissertation, Frans Oerlemans re-examines the stereotyped image of Kloos, and thereby focuses on the years 1888-1900. Oerlemans's PhD defence ceremony will form part of a dual PhD conferral. Peter Janzen examined Kloos’s life during the years 1859-1888.
