Ion channels are crucial for cell communication because ions such as calcium and magnesium are passed over the plasma membrane. TRPM7 is a unique ion channel, seeing as it also contains a functional enzymatic domain. Daan Visser examines whether TRPM7 is involved in the metastasis of tumour cells.
