In the neural definition of consciousness, a distinction is made between the so-called ‘feedforward sweep’ (FFS) and recurrent processing (RP) as the divide between unconscious and conscious processing respectively. For her PhD thesis, Julia Meuwese explores the notion that consciousness, according to the neural definition, changes the brain, while attention does not.
