Marcel Spierts examines the historical development of the professionalisation of the socio-cultural occupations in the Netherlands. Spierts hereby considers the socio-cultural workers (‘socio-cultureel werkers’), youth workers (‘jongerenwerkers’), community organisers (‘opbouwwerkers’) and educational workers (‘vormingswerkers’) as belonging to the socio-cultural occupations. His central research question is: how has professionalisation of the socio-cultural occupations developed since 1945, and what internal and external (f)actors influence this?
