Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common, but also one of the most least understood functional gastrointestinal disorders. Visceral hypersensitivity (i.e. increased perception of gastrointestinal stimuli) is observed in the majority of patients and considered a pathophysiological mechanism. Oana Ingrid Stǎnişor seeks to obtain a better understanding of mechanisms relevant to visceral hypersensitivity.
