Neuroblastoma is the most common extra-cranial malignant solid tumour in childhood. It accounts for 7 to 10% of all childhood cancers and for approximately 15% of cancer deaths in children. For her PhD thesis, Gitta Bleeker aims to: investigate the diagnostic accuracy of imaging techniques, MIBG scintigraphy in particular, to detect neuroblastoma and osteomedullary metastases; detect patterns of metastases with clinical and prognostic relevance using MIBG scans; and to investigate the role of MIBG in the treatment of neuroblastoma.
