Marcel van den Haak is looking at how people in the Netherlands perceive cultural hierarchy and how they define and classify concepts such as ‘high’ and 'low’ culture. He is also studying how people put cultural hierarchy into practice, meaning the extent to which their discourse reflects how they look up to or down on other people’s tastes.
