Wieneke Smid is researching the possible role of risk assessment instruments in policies designed to reduce the incidence of sexual offences. Treatment interventions are most successful when they meet the three principles of the Risk/Need/Responsivity model. Smid is concentrating mainly on the risk principle, which prescribes that offenders at the greatest risk of recidivism should undergo the most intensive and lengthy intervention.
