Traumatic events are fairly common experiences among children, and can have long lasting effects and influence a child’s emotional, social, cognitive or physical development. Eva Verlinden focuses on children who have been exposed to one or more potentially traumatic events during their lives. Her aim is twofold: to enhance general knowledge with regard to the definition of a traumatic event and the psychological consequences of traumatic exposure in children; and to improve the identification of children suffering from psychological trauma by addressing the lack of reliable and valid measures to screen for children with posttraumatic stress.
