The microcirculation, consisting of capillaries and associated terminal arterioles and postcapillary venules, plays a pivotal role in oxygen delivery to issue. Namkje Vellinga examines microcirculatory dysfunction in critically ill patients. She hereby explores the prevalence of dysfunction in microcirculation, regardless of their underlying disease, and the interplay between microcirculation and macrocirculation.
