Cancer cells interact with and adapt to their microenvironment to support their survival and clonal expansion. Cytokines are instrumental agents that modulate this interaction; they can be expressed by the microenvironment as well as by the tumor cells themselves and act directly on the tumor or on the surrounding microenvironment. APRIL is a cytokine that belongs to the Tumor Necrosis Factor (TNF) superfamily. Valeria Lascano throws light on the involvement of APRIL in tumor development.
