An important part of thrombosis treatment is the use of anticoagulant medicines. However, there is a major disadvantage to these anticoagulants in that they work so well that they block the entire blood clotting system. Maurits van Montfoort studies whether blocking clotting factor XI is a safe method for preventing thrombosis.
