Joanne Wildenbeest describes the disease spectrum of picornavirus infections in children, including enteroviruses (EVs), human parechoviruses (HPeV) and human rhinoviruses (HRV). She hereby assesses the clinical relevance of an infection detected in the era of new and sensitive molecular diagnostic tools (PCR), which are now widely and routinely used in clinical settings.
